Trump fatigue is real, but now is not the time to look away

It'd be understandable to want to skip right past this story, which explores the bizarre speech Donald Trump gave in Wisconsin on Wednesday night, a rare day off from his criminal election interference trial in Manhattan. The politician Trump has been unavoidable for nine years now, and at every turn, he gets worse.  And Wednesday night was no exception. Hot off nine contempt of court violations and a disastrous Time magazine interview that he surely thought went very well, Trump continues to spiral. But as President Joe Biden begged at Saturday's White House Correspondents' Association dinner, the media must cover the realities of the threat Trump presents, not just the gaffes or the horse race polling. Those on the right side of history must expose the dangers and avoid the cynical amusement that contributed to Trump's 2016 win. He cannot be ignored. To pay attention to what he's saying at rallies""and how well it's received""is a duty voters all share as the fight heats up to defeat him once and for all in November.

Caribbean Matters: The truth behind Biden's primary win in Puerto Rico

You may have heard that Joe Biden won the Puerto Rican Democratic Party primary Sunday with 98% of the vote, which awards him 55 delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August. A Google news search brings up multiple headlines touting the win, and it was virtually the only news about Puerto Rico to be found in mainstream media this week. Biden faced nominal opposition in the primary from Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota, who dropped out of the race, and author Marianne Williamson.

RFK Jr. sued Daily Kos. Things are not going well for him

Back in 2021, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sued Daily Kos to unmask the identity of a community member who posted a critical story about his dalliance with neo-Nazis at a Berlin rally. I updated the story herehere, here, here, and here.  To briefly summarize, Kennedy wanted us to doxx our community member, and we stridently refused. We protect our community at all costs. Shockingly, Kennedy got a trial court judge in New York to agree with him, and a subpoena was issued to Daily Kos to turn over any information we might have on the account. However, we are based in California, not New York, so once I received the subpoena at home, we had a California court not just quash the subpoena, but essentially signal that if New York didn't do the right thing on appeal, California could very well take care of it.

Kristi Noem's most public murder is her political career

Most people caught bragging about how they took a family dog to a rock quarry and murdered it because they "just hated that dog," might think about shutting up for a moment. Most people might hope that something horrific would appear in the next news cycle to divert the public spotlight and end painful memes about a puppy mounted like a trophy. But no one would say that South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem is like most people.

'Donald Trump did this': Kamala Harris condemns Florida's 6-week abortion ban

When Vice President Kamala Harris traveled to Florida Wednesday to stand in solidarity with residents as the state's six-week abortion went into effect, she was crystal clear about who bore responsibility for it: Donald Trump. "At the stroke of midnight, another Trump abortion ban went into effect here in Florida," Harris told a crowd of some 200 supporters in Jacksonville, squarely laying the blame on Democrats' rival candidate for the White House. "As of this morning, 4 million women in this state woke up with fewer reproductive freedoms than they had last night."

Live coverage: Testimony resumes in Trump's first criminal trial

On Tuesday, Judge Juan Merchan ruled that Donald Trump had repeatedly violated the gag order in his trial for 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal payments made as part of a "catch-and-kill" scheme during the 2016 presidential election. Merchan found Trump in contempt for nine social media posts that prosecutors identified and fined Trump $1,000 for each violation. He also warned that since he was unable to levy fines high enough to be significant to Trump, incarceration is a possibility if Trump continues to violate the gag order.

Louisiana has no congressional map, but there's a simple solution

Louisiana is once again without a valid congressional map following a new federal court ruling issued Tuesday evening, and it's not yet clear how the matter might get resolved. But proposals put forward earlier in the complex litigation that has led up to this moment show that there are readily available options that should satisfy the competing legal principles at play. One group of Black voters and civil rights organizations who originally challenged the map the state adopted in 2022 after the most recent census have already appealed the new ruling to the Supreme Court, and state Attorney General Liz Murrill, a Republican, has said she will as well. Another set of Black voters have also asked the federal judge who barred the use of the 2022 map two years ago in a different case to reopen proceedings to consider a replacement plan.

Trump fumes as RFK Jr.'s anti-vaxx views land with MAGA voters

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is swamping conservative media platforms, which has Donald Trump and his campaign team on edge, according to Politico. Kennedy is reportedly frequenting pro-Trump outlets such as Fox News and Newsmax, along with right-wing podcasts hosted by the likes of Ben Shapiro and Glenn Beck. His message on those programs is tailor-made for voters who dislike or even despise President Joe Biden and Democrats, including "the young listeners of bro podcasters and conservative-coded YouTubers that skew anti-'woke,'" writes Politico.
